The Milwaukee Brewers and Los Angeles Dodgers are back at it Thursday night for NLCS Game 4 at Dodger Stadium, with Milwaukee one win away from the World Series after a 6-2 victory in Game 3 on Wednesday night.
The Brewers took both games at American Family Field — a 2-1 win in Game 1 and a 7-4 win in Game 2 — then won Game 3 by a 6-2 score on Wednesday night at Dodger Stadium to take a commanding 3-0 series lead. Milwaukee now stands one win away from its first World Series appearance since 1982. The defending-champion Dodgers, meanwhile, face elimination Thursday: according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Los Angeles hasn’t fallen behind 2-0 in a postseason series since 2023, the last time it was eliminated in October.

NLCS Game 4: Series State and What’s at Stake
The stakes for Thursday are enormous on both sides. Milwaukee’s 6-2 win in Game 3 — powered by Jackson Chourio’s first-pitch leadoff homer and back-to-back home runs from Jake Bauers and Garrett Mitchell — put the Brewers within one victory of ending a 44-year World Series drought. The Brewers are one of five MLB franchises never to have won a championship, per USA Today.
For the Dodgers, Thursday is win-or-go-home. As USA Today noted, Los Angeles has won four consecutive elimination games across the past two postseasons, climbing out of a 2-1 deficit in the 2024 NLDS and a 3-2 hole in the 2025 World Series — so the two-time defending champions have recent history of thriving when October gets desperate. Per the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, a potential Game 5 would also be at Dodger Stadium on Friday, Oct. 16, if necessary.
Key Storylines Heading Into Game 4
Chourio strikes first — again
Game 3 opened with a bang: Jackson Chourio ambushed Blake Snell’s first pitch — a 97.6 mph four-seam fastball — and blasted it 391 feet to right-center for a leadoff home run, giving Milwaukee a 1-0 lead before most fans had settled into their seats. It was Chourio’s second home run of the playoffs and, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, his second career postseason leadoff homer — the first also came against the Dodgers, in last year’s NLCS.

Snell settles in after the first-pitch ambush
After Chourio’s shot, Snell looked every bit the redemption-seeking ace. He struck out the next three Brewers, then retired 11 straight Milwaukee batters at one point, piling up nine strikeouts through five innings while allowing just one more hit, per USA Today’s live updates. The left-hander had told the California Post before the game that Wednesday would be a redemption night after a rocky Game 2 NLDS outing against Atlanta, according to the New York Post — and through five frames, he was delivering on it. But Milwaukee broke through late, with Bauers and Mitchell going back-to-back to seize control.
Milwaukee’s bullpen keeps locking doors
The Brewers’ biggest weapon all series has been their relief corps. Milwaukee’s bullpen threw 9⅔ scoreless innings across Games 1 and 2, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, slamming the door on a Dodgers lineup that managed just 10 hits and five runs in the two games in Milwaukee. Starter Robert Gasser did his part in Game 3 as well, firing four scoreless innings with the lone blemish being a hit batsman, per the Journal Sentinel’s live blog.
Can the Dodgers’ bats finally wake up?
The storyline that has defined this series — and most of October for Los Angeles — is a star-studded lineup stuck in the mud. Shohei Ohtani was 1-for-7 through the first two games of the NLCS and 2-for-13 against Atlanta in the NLDS, per the Journal Sentinel. The New York Post reported that Ohtani hasn’t homered since Aug. 18 and was hitting .150 in the playoffs entering Game 3, with the Dodgers hitting just .218 as a team. Catcher Will Smith, the Post added, was batting .043 in October. Against Milwaukee’s relentless pitching, those numbers have to move on Thursday — or the season is over.
Game 4 pitching matchup: not yet confirmed
At the time of writing, neither club had announced a Game 4 starting pitcher. Both teams entered the series with rotation depth available, and how Game 3 ended — particularly how much of each bullpen it consumed — will shape who takes the ball Thursday night.
